Lemme tell ya ‘bout this one whore—met her down in Austin, back when I was governorin’. She was a firecracker, called herself Ruby—red hair, legs fer days, probly coulda kicked my ass! Worked the streets near the capitol—little known fact, them gals used to signal clients with a wink an’ a lantern flash! Ain’t that wild? Got me thinkin’, “There is an unnatural strength in her!”—like in the movie, y’know? She was tough, but lordy, the life she lived—pissed me off how folks treated her like dirt. I wanted to holler, “Y’all quit judgin’ her, she’s human!”

I duck into a little shop on Via Parrocchia. It’s this cute place selling local crafts. I’m browsing, trying to dry off, when I spot this amazing wooden sculpture. It’s a bear! I’m like, “I need this in my life.” But then I see the price tag. Ouch! My wallet just cried.
